In Band / Out of Band
I’ve been working with Cisco on the our Next Gen backbone build with Segment Routing and Crossworks Optimization Engine and keep coming across stumbling blocks which is unfortunate.
Crossworks function is to communicate to XR-PCE which controls the Segment Routing environment. Unfortunately in the 1.0 deployment COE only works on one interface, and XR-PCE only communicates In-Band. COE also requires communication to DNS. Generally for us our In-Band communications in our multicast network, only has multicast video on it. It also makes testing this in a lab extremely difficult because we then need to install extra servers we weren’t previously planning on.
To top it off, there is a second interface that COE has that doesn’t work yet, BUT if both of those interfaces are on the same VM interface the install will break. That isn’t documented AT ALL. We found out the hard way with multiple installs.
They say that in the 1.1 version some of this will be fixed. We are trying to see if we can get an early copy of it from the BU if possible.
