No More Tree-Sid

A lot is changing right now with our Next Gen Backbone lab. Its been up and in full swing for a bit. Due to Covid I haven’t been in the office to take advantage of as much as I would like to. We have the backbone in the lab working the way we think it should for the most part however we have to make some major pivots.

I think I explained this in other blog entries, but as a refresher, we are building out what we are calling our Next Gen Backbone, where we are going to Cisco NCS Routers in 13 colocation sites across the country connected at 100 Gigs. We are still going to have Segment Routing running as the main architecture of the network, and Tree-Sid was going to help us move multicast around.

Unfortunately after we tested everything and proved out that Tree-Sid actually works, Cisco feels like the product isn’t mature enough at the moment so we now have to implement something else for the time being until they feel its ready for prime time. So now we are scrambling to make other solutions work in the mean time.

If nothing else I’m going to become an expert in a bunch of things I wasn’t intending on touching before this project is over.
